Kerry James Marshall

Kerry James Marshall is a black painter who's work focuses on race and how people of color experience the world. Often his pieces are seen to depict "dark subjects", though the work he is doing is important to showcase black experiences. He uses traditional African painting techniques and elements to depict a modern day experience, pulling on the history and culture that is often overlooked.

One of his most impactful series is called "The Garden Project", which provides the perspective of those who live in low-income housing neighborhoods.
